“I started thinking about leaving Gaza and starting a new life in a new place until things completely stabilize in the Gaza Strip. I think it will take years to recover. The conditions are getting worse day by day and the humanitarian aid that has begun to enter the north is very limited and not sufficient for its purpose. Gaza is no longer livable at all. The war has exhausted all the cash I have and I will not be able to work in these circumstances. Within weeks I lost close friends. They were struggling to survive and I was exchanging ideas and plans with them. I have no one left to lean on now. My company was destroyed twice, in 2021 and 2023. The goal of the campaign is to leave Gaza with my family to a safe place and then establish a new business, rebuilding in Europe or Canada.”

Meet the basic needs of the Abu Matar family like housing, food, water, blankets, or tents Evacuate the Abu Matar family safely to Egypt. It will cost at least USD $5000 per adult and $2500 per child to cross the border Pay for transportation from the border to Cairo and exit visas for Mohammed Abu Matar (37), his wife Ahlam (33), and their four children Hala (14), Yousef (12), Joury (7), and little Lilia (3). Any extra funds raised will be used to cover their housing and living expenses in Egypt, and their plane tickets to their final destination after Egypt.

I am Lorax Horne, a Canadian journalist who met Mohammed and his wife Ahlam in 2016, when I visited Gaza to attend a conference about the use of free software and hardware in healthcare. Mohammed helped organize this conference, as well as arranging my visa in the country.

The situation in Gaza City is starting to get worse. I am writing to you now and there is heavy flying of warplanes and bombing in various parts of Gaza City. This development comes after days of bombing on the outskirts of the city, pushing people towards the heart of the city. As a result, there has been a large displacement movement towards the center of the city coming from the outskirts and many families are spending their time in the streets now. We have started preparing ourselves for displacement if there is a comprehensive attack on the city, as the army is now threatening.
